The Pune Metro project faces scrutiny as the completion of the strategically significant Yerawada station remains pending, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters alike.
Despite inaugurating passenger services on the Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch over two months ago, the Pune Metro authorities have yet to finalise the construction of Yerawada station. The delay is attributed to unresolved issues surrounding one of the entry-exit points of the station, adjacent to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Kalas Dhanori ward office. While work on one entry-exit point was completed before the inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6, concerns raised by locals regarding traffic congestion prompted a halt in construction last November. Although work resumed in February this year, progress remains sluggish, with completion estimated to take more than a month. Yerawada station holds strategic importance within the 5.5 km stretch between Ruby Hall Clinic and Ramwadi, serving as a crucial transportation hub for residents. However, the ongoing delay has forced commuters to seek alternative routes, with many resorting to walking to the Bund Garden station, situated half a kilometre away.
Situated on the Pune-Ahmednagar national highway, Yerawada witnesses heavy traffic flow, underscoring the urgency of completing the metro station to alleviate congestion and improve connectivity. Moreover, its proximity to Pune Airport, approximately 4.8 km away, underscores its significance in facilitating seamless travel for passengers. The unresolved construction issues at Yerawada station have sparked frustration among residents, who demand swift action from the Pune Metro authorities to expedite the completion process. As commuters continue to face inconvenience and disruptions, there is a pressing need for effective coordination and resolution of the lingering construction challenges.
The completion of Yerawada station not only holds significance for enhancing commuter convenience but also contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Pune Metro project. Addressing the delays and ensuring timely completion of infrastructure projects are imperative steps towards fostering sustainable urban mobility and meeting the evolving transportation needs of Pune’s growing population.
