The Pune Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Pune Metro) has announced plans to expand its pay-and-park facilities to eight additional stations on Metro Line-2. This move aims to enhance convenience for metro users, particularly two-wheeler commuters, and is expected to streamline parking management across the network.
Currently, the pay-and-park service is operational at Anandnagar metro station, having commenced a month ago. The successful implementation at Anandnagar has prompted Pune Metro to extend this facility to more stations. In the coming days, commuters can avail themselves of pay-and-park services at the following stations: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Sant Tukaramnagar, Phugewadi, Bopodi, Shivajinagar, and Civil Court on Pune Metro Line-1, along with Ideal Colony and Mangalwar Peth/RTO. The parking charges are set at ₹8 per hour and ₹12 for two hours for two-wheelers, with an additional ₹5 fee for helmet storage. Commuters holding a valid metro ticket issued on the same day will receive a 25% discount on parking charges, providing an added incentive for public transport usage. Additionally, monthly subscription passes will be available for regular metro commuters, further enhancing the convenience of daily travel.
An executive from the public relations department of Pune Metro stated, “There is parking space available at 15 stations, and pay-and-park service is planned at eight. The facility is running smoothly at Anandnagar metro station, and we haven’t received any complaints so far.” To ensure the safety and comfort of commuters, all parking areas will be equipped with modern amenities such as boom barriers, concrete flooring, lighting, and CCTV cameras. Furthermore, additional conveniences like app-enabled parking booking and parking occupancy display boards have been integrated, making the process user-friendly and efficient. The parking charges are inclusive of GST, ensuring transparency in pricing.
This expansion of pay-and-park facilities aligns with Pune Metro’s commitment to providing a comprehensive and commuter-friendly urban transit system. By addressing the parking needs of its users, Pune Metro aims to reduce the reliance on private vehicles and encourage greater adoption of public transportation. The initiative is expected to significantly alleviate parking woes and improve the overall commuting experience for metro users. The introduction of these facilities at strategically located metro stations is part of Pune Metro’s broader vision to create a seamless and integrated transport network. As the city continues to grow and develop, such initiatives will play a crucial role in managing urban mobility and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
