In a pioneering move within Pune’s public transport landscape, Maha-Metro has inaugurated an annual comprehensive insurance initiative encompassing all patrons utilising the burgeoning Pune Metro lines 1 and 2.
This landmark initiative arrives at a juncture where the daily ridership average on these vital lines has surged beyond an impressive 70,000. The meticulously crafted policy provides coverage against a spectrum of exigencies, comprising accidents, disabilities, and fatalities stemming from unforeseen circumstances, alongside the reimbursement of medical expenditures incurred during Metro commutes.
The decision to institute this initiative was underpinned by an exhaustive risk assessment, meticulously evaluating the potential hazards confronting commuters within the Metro milieu. Notably, the insurance package extends coverage to accidents, disabilities, and fatalities arising from unforeseen eventualities, as well as the defrayment of medical costs arising from injuries sustained during Metro travels. Under the ambit of this comprehensive scheme, Pune Metro has designated a sum insured of ₹4 lakh for fatality incidents and ₹2 lakh for cases of permanent disability under the Group Personal Accident Policy and Money Insurance scheme for the Pune Metro Rail Project. The coverage is extended to all passengers holding valid tickets, passes, smart cards/QR codes, and requisite permissions, regardless of their location within the Metro premises, inclusive of both paid and unpaid zones within station buildings.
Furthermore, the policy encompasses a provision of ₹1 lakh in cash for protection against burglary and theft across 24 Metro stations. Valid from March 31, 2024, to March 30, 2025, this insurance initiative is supplemented by Maha-Metro’s collaboration with approximately 28 city-affiliated hospitals, ensuring seamless access to medical services for injuries incurred during commuting, encompassing both inpatient and outpatient treatments.
