Thousands of commuters in Pimpri-Chinchwad long wait for Pune Metro to begin its services until Pune city can breathe easily. MahaMetro, which is implementing Pune Metro project, is gearing up to launch the services on an 8 km stretch from Phugewadi to Civil Court, Shivajinagar. The work on this stretch has been completed, and only final clearance from the Commissioner of Rail Safety remains.
Besides connecting Pimpri (PCMC headquarters) to Civil Court, MahaMetro said it has also completed 2.37 km stretch work from Civil Court to Ruby Hall. And on the 2.37 km Civil Court to Garware College stretch, some work relating to the stations will be completed very soon.
Now that the work has been completed on this 15 km stretch of Pune, the final clearance will come from the Commissioner of Railway Safety. According to MahaMetro officials, there will be eight stations from Pimpri to Civil Court, Shivajinagar. Incidentally, after taking off from Pimpri, Pune Metro will halt at six stations in the limits of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. The seventh station is at Bopodi, which is in PMC limits.
