Pune Metro Extension From Swargate To Katraj Receives Six Bids As Technical Evaluation Begins

In Pune, the planned metro extension from Swargate to Katraj has advanced to the evaluation phase, with six companies submitting bids for the high-priority project aimed at easing congestion across southern Pune. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Mahametro) confirmed the development and has started assessing the proposals.

Senior Officials at Mahametro, said, “We have received six valid bids by the deadline. The evaluation committee is now conducting detailed scrutiny based on technical qualifications and financial capability. The selection process should conclude in two to three months.” The Swargate-Katraj corridor passes through key localities like Bibvewadi, Dhankawadi, Padmavati, and Balajinagar—areas known for chronic traffic bottlenecks and high pollution levels. Narrow roads and dense population make commuting difficult in this zone, leading to frequent traffic jams and accidents.

Once completed, the extended metro line is expected to bring massive relief to daily commuters from neighbourhoods like Undri, Pisoli, and the southern parts of Pune. It will offer a sustainable, faster, and more comfortable alternative to road transport. Authorities also view the project as part of a broader push to create a modern, eco-friendly public transport network in Pune. The move is expected to cut travel time, reduce carbon emissions, and improve the quality of life for lakhs of residents.
