Pune Hit by Heavy Rains for Second Day

Pune has been battered by heavy rains for the second day running, with significant downpours affecting various parts of the city. Despite the monsoon season showing weaker patterns overall, localised weather conditions have intensified, leading to substantial rainfall in the region.

On Sunday, the city experienced conditions typical of pre-monsoon weather, including the formation of thunderstorm clouds in the afternoon and evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Wadgaonsheri received over 111 mm of rain by 6:15 pm, while Lohegaon recorded 48 mm by 8:30 pm. This unexpected deluge has come as a surprise given the generally subdued monsoon conditions this year. Meteorological experts attribute the recent rainfall to localised weather phenomena rather than broad monsoon patterns. They suggest that the cloud formation over Pune has been particularly active, leading to the observed precipitation. Over the past two days, the city has witnessed thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h.

The impact of these weather conditions is not limited to Pune alone. Similar meteorological patterns are being reported in several other districts, including Nasik, Aurangabad, Hingoli, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Palghar, Osmanabad, Ratnagiri, and Thane. The widespread nature of these storms highlights a regional pattern of intense localised rainfall that is affecting a broad swath of Maharashtra. Residents of Pune and surrounding areas should remain vigilant as the weather continues to develop. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and updates on further rainfall and potential impacts will be provided as necessary.
