Pune Dialogue Stresses Collaborative Social Impact

In a collective effort to strengthen corporate social responsibility (CSR) and bridge the gap between companies and social causes, the Pune Social Impact Dialogue was recently held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel. Organised by the Software Exporters Association of Pune (SEAP), the event brought together corporate leaders, NGO representatives, and experts to foster impactful and inclusive collaboration in the CSR ecosystem.

The event was inaugurated by Sonali Deshpande, Chairperson of the Persistent Foundation, and featured a panel discussion on the evolving role of CSR in urban and social development. SEAP President Vinita Gera, Vice President Shivraj Sable, ESG Forum Secretary Vidyadhar Purandare, Treasurer Anand Ranade, and Executive Committee members including Abhijit Atre and Nitin Deshpande were among the dignitaries present. SEAP, which launched the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Forum, aims to ensure CSR funds reach deserving grassroots initiatives. The Forum seeks to match socially conscious companies with appropriate on-ground projects, ensuring effective utilisation of funds and greater long-term impact. Speaking at the dialogue, Deshpande highlighted the need to focus on empowering India’s youth, citing the urgent requirement to create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. “India has the largest young population in the world, but job creation is lagging. Young people must take charge through self-employment and innovation,” she said.

Architect Anagha Paranjape noted that the environmental crisis must be treated with urgency. She stressed the importance of water conservation and green living, urging cities to learn from global urban failures. “Indian cities are growing rapidly, and we must integrate sustainability into our development,” she said. Panellist Vidyadhar Purandare added that urban planning must be forward-looking and participatory. “We need structured planning that includes community voices. Only then can our cities develop sustainably,” he said. CSR practitioner Jignesh Thakkar underlined the value of understanding grassroots needs and forming meaningful partnerships with civil society. “The youth have immense energy. When channelled correctly, it can lead to transformative development,” he noted. Sachin Gadgil emphasised investing in human resources and community involvement in CSR programmes. “The next generation is smart and engaged. With the right training, they can drive long-term impact in the social sector,” he said. The session was moderated by Shivam Singh, who steered the dialogue toward actionable insights and collaborative ideas.

As Pune continues to evolve as a knowledge and industry hub, events like the Social Impact Dialogue point to a growing commitment among corporates and civil society to work together for inclusive growth and sustainable urban development.
