In Pune, the Municipal Commissioner has assured residents of Undri, Mohammadwadi, and NIBM Annexe that long-standing civic infrastructure challenges will be prioritized and swiftly addressed. Following an appeal from a local residents’ welfare foundation, key concerns regarding inadequate roads, defunct streetlights, and incomplete drainage systems were brought to the forefront. This proactive commitment aims to rectify issues that have plagued these areas since their merger into the Pune Municipal Corporation in 2019, promising immediate corrective measures for improved urban living.
Among the major issues highlighted were severe traffic bottlenecks caused by illegal encroachments at Mohammadwadi and Kad Nagar chowks. Road conditions from Nyati Estate to Undri Marg and from Kad Nagar chowk to Mohamadwadi Chowk were specifically raised, emphasizing the urgent need for reconstruction and the removal of all obstructions. Furthermore, the delegation pointed out the perilous presence of streetlight poles situated directly in the middle of the road at Kad Nagar chowk, which has significantly worsened safety concerns for both motorists and pedestrians, making commuting hazardous in these areas.
Residents also expressed profound frustration over the incomplete drainage line connections to the main sewer network, a critical issue that has been pending for over a year. This prolonged delay has resulted in frequent waterlogging and poor sanitation, consequently posing considerable health risks to the community. The delegation further stressed the imperative need for installing adequate streetlights and a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system across Undri, citing that the area remains poorly lit and isolated, rendering it unsafe, particularly during late hours. The Commissioner acknowledged these pressing issues and assured residents that the civic body would prioritize them, initiating immediate corrective measures.
This civic assurance represents a significant stride towards enhancing urban infrastructure and public safety in Pune’s rapidly developing areas. Addressing these long-standing issues will improve connectivity, sanitation, and overall quality of life. The proactive engagement between citizens and the administration sets a positive precedent for achieving equitable and sustainable urban development.
