Pune Braces For More Rain As Monsoon Activity Rises Across Maharashtra

Pune’s ghat and city areas saw increased rainfall, with Tamhini Ghat recording 190mm and Shirgaon 112mm in the 24-hour period ending 8:30 AM on Tuesday. India Meteorological Department (IMD) data showed Kuruvande received 96.5mm, followed by Lonavla (90mm) and Bhor (56.5mm). Within Pune city, key locations like Shivajinagar registered 6.9mm, Lohegaon 8.8mm, Chinchwad 8mm, Pashan 5.4mm, Lavale 12mm, and Magarpatta 0.5mm, indicating widespread increased activity.

The Met department also recorded heavy rainfall in parts of Nashik, Dhule, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg. While Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and Vidarbha logged light rainfall on Tuesday, Marathwada remained relatively subdued. Specifically, Mahabaleshwar in Satara district received 147.8mm, and Ganganbawada and Radhanagari in Kolhapur district saw 128mm and 121mm, respectively. In Konkan, Shrivardhan registered 139mm, Mhalsa 130mm, and Mangaon 110mm. More rainfall is expected in Pune city with IMD forecasting generally cloudy skies and light rain on Wednesday.

According to IMD officials, several active weather systems across the country are accelerating this rainfall. A depression over central North Rajasthan and a well-marked low-pressure area over North Jharkhand and adjoining South Bihar are expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall over Rajasthan, alongside significant downpours over East and adjoining Central India in the next two to three days. The weather department has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea along Konkan, Goa, Kerala, and Karnataka coasts from July 15 to July 19, also alerting farmers about the impending heavy rainfall.

As intense monsoon activity continues across Maharashtra, these forecasts and advisories are crucial for public safety and preparedness. Authorities remain vigilant, urging residents, fishermen, and farmers to heed warnings and take necessary precautions. This dynamic weather pattern underscores the need for robust disaster management, ensuring communities can navigate the challenging season with resilience and minimized impact, safeguarding lives and livelihoods.
