Pune is set to witness a major overhaul of its public transport system with the proposed acquisition of 1,000 electric buses, a move designed to bolster urban mobility while advancing the city’s zero carbon and sustainability goals. The proposal, submitted by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) to the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has received strong backing from officials, signalling swift momentum towards modernising the city’s transport infrastructure.
In a high-level discussion in New Delhi, officials emphasised that the introduction of electric buses will complement ongoing metro expansion plans and the modernisation of PMPML, Pune’s public transport operator.
