Pune Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Bars

In a decisive move to clamp down on illegal establishments, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has demolished unauthorized constructions at various bars in Hinjawadi. This action follows the circulation of a disturbing video depicting youths consuming drugs in the restroom of L3 – Liquid Leisure Lounge, a well-known bar on Pune’s FC Road. The viral nature of the video prompted swift intervention from local authorities.

Reacting promptly to the video’s emergence, the Pune District Collector directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), and PMRDA to prepare and submit comprehensive lists of illegal clubs and bars within their jurisdictions. These lists were to be presented to the Pune Excise Department for further action. The PMC responded by compiling a list of 92 bars that were found to be operating outside legal parameters. This list was duly submitted to the Excise Department, showcasing the corporation’s commitment to addressing the issue. However, the PCMC has yet to comply with the directive, leaving a gap in the enforcement process within its jurisdiction.

Simultaneously, the PMRDA conducted a thorough investigation and identified 22 illegal establishments within Mulshi Taluka, which includes prominent venues in the bustling Hinjawadi area. These establishments were found to be in violation of various encroachment and legal regulations set by the PMRDA. The PMRDA’s comprehensive list of 22 clubs and bar-like establishments has been forwarded to both the District Collector’s Office and the Pune State Excise Department for further scrutiny and action. This proactive measure underscores the authority’s commitment to maintaining law and order, and ensuring that businesses operate within the legal framework.

The crackdown on illegal bars is part of a broader initiative to curb illicit activities and ensure the safety and well-being of the public. The authorities are keen to send a strong message that illegal operations, particularly those facilitating drug use, will not be tolerated. The swift action taken by the PMC and PMRDA highlights the collaborative effort between various municipal bodies and the state government to uphold the law. As the investigation continues, it is expected that further measures will be implemented to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to maintain the integrity of Pune’s nightlife. This development serves as a reminder to business owners of the importance of adhering to legal guidelines and underscores the vigilance of local authorities in upholding public safety and regulatory compliance.
