Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar conducted a stringent early morning inspection of Hinjawadi IT Park, Mann, and Marunji areas, issuing stern directives to address rampant unauthorised constructions, encroachments, and critical infrastructure deficiencies. This decisive action underscores a renewed governmental focus on rectifying urban planning lapses that threaten Pune’s reputation as a premier IT hub, vital for fostering sustainable, equitable, and efficiently managed urban landscapes.
The unannounced visit by the Deputy Chief Minister, prompted by mounting concerns over the deteriorating urban infrastructure, revealed widespread issues including severe traffic congestion, persistent waterlogging during monsoons, and illegal constructions blocking essential drainage systems. Pawar’s sharp reprimand to local sarpanches and developers highlighted the detrimental impact of these lapses on the daily lives of IT professionals and local residents. Such unchecked growth, without corresponding infrastructure development, directly undermines the principles of sustainable urbanisation and equitable access to quality living environments.
Pawar explicitly held authorities accountable for the blocked drains and the resulting monsoon waterlogging, which severely inconveniences commuters and tarnishes the city’s image. His direct challenge to developers, “You earn money, but our state suffers the blame,” signals a firm stance against unsustainable development practices that prioritise profit over planned urban growth and environmental responsibility. Immediate orders were issued for the removal of encroachments on drains and the expedited completion of pending roadworks, aiming to restore functionality and safety to the affected areas.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s strong admonition to sarpanches, warning that “IT parks are moving to Bengaluru and Hyderabad while Pune risks losing its status,” underscores the economic imperative behind these corrective actions.
