With the summer break approaching, Pune’s air travel scene is gearing up for a major transformation. Starting March 30, 2025, Pune Airport will increase its daily flight operations under the much-anticipated ‘summer schedule.’
The new schedule will see a total of 104 departures and 104 arrivals, amounting to 208 flight movements per day. This is a significant jump from the current winter schedule, where the airport handles around 180 flight movements daily. The introduction of this enhanced schedule is aimed at accommodating the growing demand for air travel during the peak summer months. As schools and colleges shut for summer, families often take the opportunity to plan vacations, both within India and internationally. The summer schedule comes as a solution to the perennial issue of flight shortages during this high-demand period, which has often led to frustration among travellers struggling to secure bookings.
Pune Airport’s summer schedule will run for six months, until the end of September, and will facilitate flights to 35 domestic and international destinations, including popular international spots like Dubai, Singapore, and Bangkok. It will also offer a broad range of flights to destinations within Maharashtra and across India, significantly expanding travel options for Punekars.
Speaking on the upcoming schedule, the Director of Pune Airport expressed optimism, saying, “The increased flight slots are a welcome development, ensuring greater convenience for passengers, particularly during the peak summer months. With 104 slots available, the new schedule will help eliminate booking bottlenecks and provide greater flexibility for both business and leisure travellers.” For frequent flyers, the benefits of the new schedule are already clear. One frequent business traveller shared, “The increase in flight options means I no longer have to rush for last-minute bookings. I can now plan my business trips to destinations like Dubai and Singapore with much more ease. The added convenience of flexible flight timings is a real game-changer.” Families planning summer vacations are also expected to benefit greatly. A regular flyer mentioned, “We often struggle to find flights during the peak season, but now with more options available, planning vacations will be far less stressful. I’m particularly looking forward to the direct flights to Bangkok and the increased availability of routes to cooler destinations in northern India.”
The expansion of flight services also aligns with Pune’s growing reputation as an important regional hub for air travel. The increase in flight frequencies will not only help local residents but is also expected to attract more visitors to the city, spurring tourism and contributing to the region’s economy. The new schedule is set to offer seamless connectivity for a wide spectrum of passengers, from business travellers to holidaymakers, and its introduction marks a significant step forward in improving air travel infrastructure at Pune Airport. With 104 slots available, the airport is poised to meet the growing demands of the summer season, easing travel plans for countless passengers while reducing the strain on resources.
Looking beyond the immediate benefits for travellers, this increased connectivity also holds potential for long-term growth in the region. By boosting travel options, Pune can further solidify its position as an accessible and dynamic destination for both domestic and international visitors. As the summer travel season heats up, Pune Airport is set to be a key player in shaping the city’s future as a major air travel hub in India.
