Puducherry Launches Daily Rajahmundry Flight Via Hyderabad Boosting Connectivity

Puducherry has taken another decisive step towards improving regional air connectivity and sustainable mobility with the launch of a new daily flight service linking Puducherry and Rajahmundry via Hyderabad. The route, operated by IndiGo Airlines, is part of the carrier’s revised winter schedule and aims to boost economic and cultural linkages across southern India.

According to airport officials, the new service will strengthen Puducherry’s accessibility to business and administrative hubs such as Hyderabad and Rajahmundry, while also enhancing connectivity for travellers to Yanam — an enclave of Puducherry located strategically along the Godavari delta. The development is seen as an enabler for tourism, small and medium enterprises, and regional trade integration.

The ATR-72 aircraft departs Rajahmundry at 10.05 am, reaches Hyderabad at 11.20 am, and lands in Puducherry at 1.45 pm. On the return leg, it departs Puducherry for Bengaluru at 2.05 pm and resumes its onward journey via Hyderabad, concluding the final sector at Rajahmundry at 9.10 pm. Officials described the new timing as optimised for both business and leisure travellers.Airport authorities have said that the revised schedule represents a key milestone in the city’s evolving aviation ecosystem. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), which manages Puducherry Airport, continues to enhance infrastructure capacity and passenger experience through energy-efficient systems, digital ticketing, and improved airside safety.

Experts believe that enhanced air services can play a pivotal role in developing Puducherry as a sustainable economic hub. With increased intercity connectivity, the region can expect better tourism inflows, reduced dependency on long road journeys, and lower per-capita carbon emissions through optimised aircraft operations. Officials also underlined that daily connectivity will improve travel flexibility for government employees, corporate commuters, and tourists, aligning with India’s broader goal of promoting green and inclusive mobility.

\While the new route strengthens Puducherry’s role as a regional gateway, authorities stressed the need for collaborative efforts to ensure that infrastructure development remains environment-friendly. The focus, they noted, must remain on adopting sustainable aviation fuel, improving multimodal integration, and maintaining a balance between economic growth and environmental responsibility.
With this launch, Puducherry positions itself as a rising air travel hub in South India  one that blends economic aspiration with sustainability-driven growth.
