Prime Minister Modi Launches Delhi-Faridabad Metro Line Extension

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-anticipated extension of the Delhi Metro line from Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad, marking a significant stride in enhancing regional connectivity and urban mobility for commuters between Delhi and the bustling industrial hub of Faridabad in Haryana.

The extension, completed at a total project cost nearing INR 2,500 crore, received financial contributions from multiple stakeholders. The Haryana Government spearheaded the initiative with INR 1,557 crore, supplemented by INR 537 crore from the Central Government and INR 400 crore from the Delhi Metro authorities. This collaborative effort shows a commitment to modernizing transport infrastructure to meet the growing demands of a burgeoning metropolitan area. The newly inaugurated nine-station metro corridor, which is predominantly indigenously built, promises commuters a safe, affordable, and environmentally sustainable mode of transport. It is anticipated to cater to approximately two lakh daily passengers, offering a seamless and reliable transit experience characterized by speed and comfort.

Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for inaugurating the metro service, which he described as a transformative gift propelling Faridabad to “another level of progress.” The metro extension is expected to significantly enhance connectivity within the National Capital Region (NCR), facilitating easier access to adjacent towns and promoting economic integration across urban centres. Chief Minister Khattar announced plans for future metro expansions, including the proposed Gurgaon-Faridabad metro link, reinforcing the government’s commitment to expanding urban transport infrastructure to keep pace with rapid urbanization and population growth.

The extension of the Delhi-Faridabad Metro line not only addresses immediate commuter needs but also aligns with broader regional development goals, fostering sustainable urban growth and enhancing quality of life for residents. Its successful completion serves as a testament to effective public-private partnerships and efficient project management strategies in the realm of urban transportation. The Delhi-Faridabad Metro extension stands as a model for future urban transport initiatives, promising to reshape commuter experiences and contribute to India’s vision of sustainable urban development.
