Prestige Group To Build 1.5 Km Bengaluru Flyover Connecting Bellandur To ORR

Bengaluru has taken a decisive step to alleviate chronic traffic bottlenecks, with municipal approval for a 1.5‑km elevated flyover connecting Bellandur’s new Prestige Beta Tech Park directly to the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Sanctioned by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), this infrastructure intervention is slated to significantly reduce congestion along Old Airport Road and Kariyammana Agrahara corridors.

The Prestige Group, responsible for both the tech park and the infrastructure investment, will fully fund the project. In return for permission to build over public space—adjacent to a stormwater drain—the developer will widen Kariyammana Agrahara Road, mitigating current capacity constraints for commuters and local residents alike. The proposal, originally submitted in August 2022 and revised late last year, reflects both private‑sector initiative and civic collaboration. BBMP’s April approval mandates the flyover be open to all road users, not restricted solely to tech‑park traffic. Prestige will also construct a 40‑foot‑wide connector road to Sakra Hospital Road, reducing journey distances by approximately 2.5 km, according to Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd.

A BBMP spokesperson emphasised the alignment of the project with the city’s broader urban mobility and sustainability goals, including equitable access and reduced vehicular idling—and thus lower carbon emissions—on key arterials. Local engineers note that embedding storm‑drain‑adjacent construction and widening works demonstrates an eco‑sensitive urban design approach. Once complete, the flyover promises a smoother commute for the expected 5,000‑plus workers at the upcoming tech park and countless daily motorists. The development also underscores a growing trend: leveraging private capital and technical capacity to address public‑sector infrastructure deficits. Exporting such public‑private partnerships could accelerate delivery of urban mobility infrastructure across India.

Challenges remain. The project must navigate detailed engineering reviews, secure negligible land‑acquisition hurdles, and manage construction disruption transparently—especially to uphold gender‑neutral access and safety. BBMP has stipulated equitable design standards, such as pedestrian walkways and lighting. Ultimately, the Bellandur‑ORR flyover represents a promising blueprint: targeted, privately supported infrastructure that aligns with compact city planning, improved commuter experience, and eco‑responsible mobility in one of India’s most congested urban corridors.
