Prayagraj is set to significantly enhance its air connectivity with new direct flights to Ahmedabad, Indore, Kolkata, and Dehradun, scheduled to begin before the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. This move comes as part of the city’s larger push to modernize its infrastructure and boost its economic potential.
The expansion of Prayagraj Airport’s terminal, which now accommodates up to 850 passengers, will facilitate this growth in flight operations to meet rising demand for air travel. For years, Prayagraj’s residents and businesses have faced challenges due to limited flight options. The new routes, operated by major airlines like Indigo and Alliance Air, will bridge these gaps, providing direct access to key destinations in less than two hours. These services will complement existing flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and other cities. The timing of these new flights is crucial, especially with the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, which draws millions of visitors every 12 years. Air connectivity will ease transportation for both pilgrims and business travelers. The new services are also expected to stimulate local businesses, particularly in tourism, hospitality, and retail. In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the airport expansion prioritizes sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient systems and greener technologies, aligning with India’s focus on sustainable aviation.
