Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway has concluded a highly successful ticket-checking campaign in June, collecting over ₹9.57 crore in fines from more than 1.33 lakh passengers. This significant increase in revenue, compared to the previous year, underscores a concerted effort to promote safe, convenient, and rule-compliant train travel. The initiative highlights the critical role of robust enforcement in fostering a disciplined and equitable public transport ecosystem.
In a concerted effort to reinforce adherence to railway regulations and enhance operational efficiency, the Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway conducted an intensive, month-long ticket-checking campaign throughout June. This strategic initiative yielded substantial results, with the division collecting over ₹9.57 crore in fines from a staggering 1,33,663 passengers. This figure marks a notable increase from the ₹8.2 crore collected in June 2024, signalling a heightened focus on curbing unauthorised travel and ensuring fair usage of public resources. The campaign’s success reflects a commitment to fostering a disciplined environment essential for the smooth functioning of a high-capacity transport network.
The comprehensive campaign targeted various forms of travel irregularities. A significant portion of the penalties, amounting to over ₹5.56 crore, was collected from 61,064 passengers found travelling entirely without valid tickets. Additionally, 66,207 individuals were identified with irregular or improper tickets, contributing over ₹3.74 crore to the total fine collection. Beyond passenger tickets, the drive also addressed violations related to luggage, with 2,331 passengers fined more than ₹3.39 lakh for carrying unbooked baggage. These figures underscore the pervasive nature of such infractions and the necessity of consistent enforcement to maintain the integrity of the railway system.
Crucially, the campaign adopted a dual approach, balancing stringent enforcement with a commitment to passenger service. While penalties were levied for non-compliance, railway staff also actively assisted 4,061 passengers in securing vacant seats, generating an additional revenue of over ₹22.15 lakh without imposing fines. This aspect of the initiative demonstrates the division’s dedication to enhancing passenger convenience and experience, showcasing a nuanced strategy that prioritises both regulation and service.
