Power Cut in Parts of Chennai on May 21 for Maintenance

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) has announced a scheduled power shutdown across several areas of Chennai on Wednesday, 21 May 2025, due to planned maintenance work aimed at strengthening the city’s power distribution system.

Electricity will be suspended from 9 am to 2 pm in key neighbourhoods, including Porur, Muthu Nagar, MRK Nagar, Mugalivakkam Main Road, Lalitha Nagar, EVP Santosh Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Bangla Thoppu, and Mata Nagar Main Road. The shutdown is part of routine infrastructure upgrades and grid improvement initiatives undertaken by TANGEDCO. TNEB has urged residents and commercial establishments in these areas to prepare for the temporary disruption, assuring that power will be restored promptly once the maintenance work concludes.

The board has emphasised that all efforts will be made to complete the scheduled tasks within the given time frame to minimise inconvenience. The maintenance activity aligns with TNEB’s ongoing mission to modernise the distribution network and enhance reliability for consumers. The power utility, restructured under Section 131 of the Electricity Act, 2003, operates through three entities: TNEB Limited, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation (TANTRANSCO).

Authorities have appealed for public cooperation as they work toward ensuring a more stable and efficient electricity supply across the city.
