PUNE: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to recruit 200 employees on a contractual basis, marking a significant step in addressing its staffing needs. The authority has invited tenders from companies to facilitate this new recruitment process, which will encompass salary adjustments and updated regulations. The tenure of 209 existing contract employees, spanning various categories, has expired. The current contractor, responsible for providing staff over the past two years, has completed its term, opening the opportunity for new tenders. However, the existing contractor is eligible to reapply.
The recruitment drive aims to fill positions across several departments, including administrative roles, the anti-encroachment department, and the fire department. Due to delays in the authority’s regular recruitment process, these roles will be filled through private organisations. Notably, the state government has decided to outsource the recruitment of fourth-grade employees. Consequently, 209 fourth-grade employees, encompassing clerks, office helpers, typists, and others, were previously recruited in PMRDA’s administrative services through a private agency. As their tenure expires at the end of June, there is an urgent need to recruit new employees to fill the resulting vacancies. Fresh tenders have been issued to private organisations to provide the required manpower through outsourcing.
The PMRDA head office in Akurdi is a hub for numerous citizens who visit for various tasks. Contract employees are distributed across different departments, but the insufficient manpower often leads to delays in work. Presently, 70 to 80 officers are on deputation from the government, with additional staffers from the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority also stationed at the PMRDA. Given the increased workload, the recruitment of outsourced contractual staff will be conducted through an examination process.
Newly recruited employees will be governed by revised rules, and their salaries will be increased. Currently, the expenditure on contract employees stands at approximately Rs 80 lakh. The independent structure of the authority has been approved, paving the way for the recruitment of nearly 400 employees. This proposal is pending government approval. Upon approval, the tenure of current contractual employees will be terminated, making way for the new recruits.
This recruitment drive is a crucial move for the PMRDA, aiming to streamline operations and improve efficiency. By outsourcing the recruitment process and implementing new rules and salary structures, the authority is poised to better handle the increasing workload and ensure timely completion of tasks. The emphasis on a rigorous examination process for selection reflects a commitment to maintaining high standards and ensuring that the best candidates are chosen for these vital roles.
