Pune Bus Fare Hike New Rates Announced

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced a fare hike—the first since December 2014.

The revised structure will standardise travel costs across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA regions with a base fare now starting at ₹10. The fare revision comes as part of PMPML’s plan to simplify fare stages and align public transport with future metro integrations and digital payment systems like the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). According to PMPML officials, the previous structure had 40 stages with fare increases every 2 km. Under the new system, travel up to 30 km will have fare stages every 5 km, and from 30 km to 80 km, every 10 km—totalling 11 simplified fare stages.

The fare update also affects daily and monthly pass users. A unified daily pass for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will now cost ₹70, replacing separate ₹40 passes for each city. Monthly passes are set at ₹1,500, up from ₹900 per area. In the PMRDA region, the daily pass has increased from ₹120 to ₹150. Student, senior citizen, and PMRDA monthly passes remain unchanged. The PMPML board approved these changes in a meeting held on May 13, 2025, which was attended by officials from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, the Transport Commissioner’s office, and the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Bhosari. As part of a broader upgrade plan, the government has allocated ₹230 crore to add 500 new CNG buses under the PMRDA scheme. PMPML also plans to cut costs by outsourcing non-core roles to private contractors.

The revised fares are expected to improve commuter convenience, enhance revenue distribution, and strengthen Pune’s public transport infrastructure. Implementation will begin shortly.
