PM Modi To Unveil Rs 22 Billion Works In Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Saturday to unveil and lay the foundation for a series of development projects collectively valued at approximately ₹22 billion. The multi-sectoral package includes infrastructure upgrades, transport enhancements, power sector investments, and cultural restoration initiatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to holistic urban growth in one of India’s oldest cities.

During the visit, the Prime Minister will also address a public gathering and release the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. This release will facilitate a direct benefit transfer of over ₹205 billion into the bank accounts of more than 97 million farmers across the country, reinforcing rural livelihoods and agricultural resilience. A key component of the visit is the formal inauguration of improved road infrastructure in and around the Varanasi–Bhadohi corridor and the Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar route. A newly constructed railway overbridge at Hardattpur is also ready for launch, expected to significantly ease traffic pressure on the Mohan Sarai–Adalpura stretch, one of the city’s busiest transit links. Further, foundation stones will be laid for key upgrades in Dalmandi, Lahartara–Kotwa, Gangapur, and Babatpur, including two new overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard.

To modernise Varanasi’s power distribution network, the Prime Minister will initiate projects worth over ₹8.8 billion. This includes the launch of a Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of overhead electricity cables, intended to improve the efficiency, safety, and aesthetics of the city’s urban grid. The development vision also extends to the city’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Restoration work has been completed on eight riverfront kuccha ghats, and beautification of the Rangildas Kutiya ghat and its adjoining pond in Shivpur will also be inaugurated. These efforts aim to enhance the visual and ecological value of Varanasi’s riverbanks while supporting cultural tourism.

This comprehensive rollout of infrastructure and welfare initiatives reflects a model of urban transformation that integrates smart governance with social equity and heritage conservation. The works are expected to generate significant local employment opportunities, boost regional connectivity, and support Varanasi’s evolution into a more livable, accessible, and sustainable urban centre. Officials involved in the planning highlighted the strategic alignment of these projects with the government’s broader vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The emphasis remains on sustainable infrastructure, inclusive growth, and cultural revitalisation—critical pillars in building resilient Indian cities of the future.
