PM Modi Pushes Ninefold Growth in Bihar Railway Budget to ₹10000 Crore

Union Government has increased the state’s railway budget to ₹10,000 crore—marking a ninefold surge since 2014. The announcement, made by senior railway officials during their visit to Patna, reflects the Centre’s growing focus on regional connectivity, modern rail services, and economic development in Eastern India. The enhanced allocation is set to accelerate key infrastructure projects across Bihar, with several initiatives already underway. The 111-kilometre Araria-Ghagaria railway line has been completed, enhancing last-mile connectivity in remote areas. Additionally, the doubling of the Samastipur–Darbhanga route is progressing well, aimed at decongesting traffic and reducing travel time for passengers and freight.

To further strengthen long-distance connectivity, authorities confirmed that the Amrit Bharat Express will now run daily between Patna and Delhi—offering enhanced travel options for thousands of commuters. Another weekly service on the same train category is planned between Darbhanga and Lucknow. A new route linking Seemanchal in Bihar with Erode in Tamil Nadu will also be launched, providing a critical southward link for workers and families. Officials stated that Bihar has become one of the leading states in deploying Vande Bharat Express services, underlining the government’s emphasis on upgrading rail infrastructure with modern, semi-high-speed trains.

These steps are part of a broader mission to bring equitable transport access and economic opportunities to traditionally underserved regions. Beyond railways, Bihar is also witnessing growth in the technology sector. A new Software Technology Park in Patna aims to attract IT investment and build a digital economy in the state capital, boosting local job creation. The announcement was also accompanied by details of the recently approved Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme. With a total outlay of ₹99,446 crore, the scheme is projected to create over 3.5 crore jobs nationwide. It offers financial incentives to employers for hiring first-time employees and supports sustained employment, especially in the manufacturing sector.

With this strategic blend of transport and employment investments, the government appears committed to rewriting Bihar’s growth story through infrastructure-led transformation and inclusive development, ensuring the benefits reach both urban and rural populations alike.
