PM Launches Rs 48520 Crore Development Projects in Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for multiple development projects worth over Rs 48,520 crore in Karakat, Bihar, on Friday.

This initiative aims to bolster the state’s connectivity, energy security, and overall economic growth. The cornerstone of the development is the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II, with an investment of approximately Rs 29,930 crore. This 3×800 MW project in Aurangabad district is poised to ensure energy security for Bihar and eastern India, fostering industrial growth and generating employment opportunities. In the realm of transportation, several key projects were unveiled. The four-laning of the Patna-Arrah-Sasaram section of NH-119A, six-laning of the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata highway (NH-319B), and the construction of a new Ganga bridge between Buxar and Bharauli are set to create seamless high-speed corridors, enhancing trade and regional connectivity.

Additionally, the four-laning of the Patna-Gaya Dobhi section of NH-22 and the elevated highway improvements at Gopalganj town on NH-27 will further streamline transportation networks. Railway infrastructure also received a boost with the inauguration of the third rail line between Son Nagar and Mohammad Ganj, valued at over Rs 1,330 crore. This development is expected to enhance rail connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation of goods and passengers. The aviation sector saw significant advancements with the inauguration of a new terminal at Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport in Patna, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. The terminal spans 65,150 square meters and can accommodate up to 3,000 passengers during peak hours. Furthermore, the foundation stone was laid for a new civil enclave at Bihta airport, estimated at Rs 1,410 crore, which will handle 50 lakh passengers annually until 2047.

These initiatives are part of the government’s broader vision to transform Bihar into a hub of economic activity by improving infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. The projects are expected to generate over 43 lakh man-days of employment, including both direct and indirect jobs. The Prime Minister’s visit to Karakat underscores the government’s commitment to the holistic development of Bihar, aiming to create a sustainable and equitable future for its populace.
