Philippines Opens Visa Free Travel for Indian Tourists Amid Tourism Push

The Philippines has introduced visa-free entry for Indian passport holders.

The policy, effective this month, is part of the Southeast Asian nation’s broader strategy to diversify its tourism markets and reduce reliance on traditional source countries. Under the new regime, Indian tourists can enter the Philippines without a visa for up to 14 days strictly for tourism purposes. This short-term entry is non-extendable and cannot be converted into other visa categories. Additionally, Indian nationals who hold valid visas or resident permits for the United States, United Kingdom, Schengen countries, Australia, Canada, Japan, or Singapore can enter visa-free for up to 30 days, also non-extendable. The e-visa facility for Indian citizens remains operational, offering an alternative for those not eligible for visa waivers.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, speaking at the Skift Asia Forum earlier this month, acknowledged the urgency of market diversification after the country recorded a sharp decline in Chinese tourist arrivals. While the Philippines earned around $13 billion in tourism revenue last year, only 300,000 Chinese tourists visited—far below the target of 2 million. “The lesson that we learned from that is to really diversify our dependency into other markets as well,” Frasco said, naming India as a key focus. She also expressed optimism about the launch of direct flights between India and the Philippines “very soon.” Gaurav Malik, Country Director – India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal at Agoda, said the visa-free decision recognises India as a priority market. “The move also reflects Indian travellers’ growing interest in Southeast Asia as a whole,” he said, noting the trend highlighted by Skift in a September feature on tourism shifts in the region.

With increasing demand for short-haul international holidays and simplified visa processes, the Philippines’ policy is likely to position it as a competitive destination for Indian tourists seeking beach, adventure, and cultural experiences in Asia.
