The much-anticipated four-laning of the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road has officially commenced, marking a significant milestone in Punjab’s infrastructure development.
This project, spanning 48.622 kilometres, is set to enhance connectivity between Phagwara and Hoshiarpur, facilitating smoother and more efficient travel across the region. The initiative is being executed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme, with an investment of ₹1,058 crore. The project is scheduled for completion within two years and is expected to substantially reduce travel time, improve road safety, and bolster economic activities in the surrounding areas.
The upgraded road will feature two bypasses, a major bridge, and eleven smaller bridges to ensure seamless vehicular movement. Additionally, twenty underpasses are planned to maintain uninterrupted local traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety. The design also includes a railway overbridge, forty-one minor junctions, twenty-eight dedicated bus lay-byes, and two truck lay-byes, along with necessary slip roads to ease congestion and improve access points. These enhancements are anticipated to significantly reduce travel time, enhance freight transport efficiency, and offer safer road conditions for commuters. The project aligns with the central government’s broader objective of improving national and state highway infrastructure, particularly in regions experiencing rapid economic and demographic growth.
Upon completion, the upgraded Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road is expected to act as a catalyst for local economic growth. Improved road infrastructure will facilitate better connectivity for agricultural and industrial logistics, thereby supporting the region’s commercial and industrial sectors. Moreover, the enhanced road conditions are likely to ease the daily commute for residents, contributing to an improved quality of life.
