PCMC Invests INR 200 cr in Footpath Development

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform five vital city roads, including the old Pune-Mumbai Highway by developing 8-foot footpaths under the Urban Street initiative. The INR 200 crore project is aimed at addressing the growing traffic congestion arising from the ever-increasing population.

The affected roads encompass the Pune-Mumbai Highway, Telco Road to Balajinagar, Pawana Bridge to Dange Chowk, Dange Chowk to Bhumkar Chowk and Shivar Chowk to Govind Garden Hotel. Due to previous infrastructure developments like the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the Pune-Mumbai Highway has faced considerable narrowing, leaving little room for pedestrians.

PCMC has, in the past, already invested significant sums in footpaths and cycle routes, including projects like INR 109 crore from Dapodi to Pimpri (both sides), INR 60 crore from Pimpri to Nigdi (one side), INR 60 crore from Nigdi to Pimpri (one side), INR 160 crore from Telco Road-Landewadi to Thermax Chowk, INR 19 crore from Birla Hospital to Dange Chowk, INR 19 crore from Dange Chowk to Kasturi Chowk, INR 55 crore from Shivar Chowk to Govind Garden Chowk, and INR 90 crore from Sangvi to Kivale. .
