In a proactive move to safeguard environmental integrity, the environment department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated decisive action against eleven unauthorised ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants.
These facilities, operating without requisite permissions from both the civic body and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), have incurred the wrath of authorities due to their flagrant violation of pollution norms. Nestled within the PCMC jurisdiction in areas such as Tathawade, Punawale, Kiwale, and Moshi, these illicit RMC plants have been identified as significant contributors to air and noise pollution. Concerns raised by vigilant citizens prompted PCMC officials to conduct thorough investigations, revealing the clandestine nature of these operations and their blatant disregard for environmental safeguards. The absence of necessary permits from PCMC and MPCB underscores the severity of the situation, as these unlicensed operations pose substantial risks to public health and environmental well-being. PCMC authorities have wasted no time in alerting MPCB about the illicit activities of these RMC plants, invoking stringent measures under Section 376 A of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act 1949.
Effective immediately, the closure of these rogue RMC plants remains enforced until they demonstrate compliance with environmental regulations and secure the requisite permissions from relevant authorities. This decisive action underscores PCMC’s unwavering commitment to upholding environmental standards and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
