Patna-Sasaram Four-Lane Highway to Boost Infrastructure in Shahabad Region
The four-lane Patna-Sasaram greenfield highway, is set to transform the Shahabad region, enhancing connectivity and driving regional development. The highway, which will link key districts like Patna, Ara, and Sasaram, is expected to reduce travel time significantly while improving road safety across the region. The construction is slated to begin in June 2025, with an expected completion date of 2028.
This ambitious project is poised to provide significant socio-economic benefits to the Shahabad region, comprising Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, and Kaimur. The project is being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and will be carried out on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis. Regional Officer (RO) of NHAI, Yogesh Bahadur Singh, revealed that the detailed project report (DPR) for the four-lane highway has been completed, and the bidding process for selecting construction agencies is underway. The construction will be divided into two packages, with Package-1 covering a 74 km stretch from Saura village in Rohtas district to Asni village in Bhojpur. Package-2 will focus on the 46 km section from Sadisopur on the Patna Ring Road (NH-131G) to Asni on National Highway-119A.
The estimated cost of the project is ₹3,900 crore. Designed as an access-controlled road, the highway will feature designated entry and exit points to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain high speeds. Vehicles will be able to travel at speeds of up to 100 km per hour, drastically cutting travel times between Patna and the Grand Trunk Road. A new bridge over the Sone River, located approximately 10 km from the existing Koelwar Bridge, will also be constructed as part of the project. The highway will also include the construction of a new ring road around Ara, which is expected to improve traffic management within the town, easing congestion and promoting more efficient movement of goods and people.
The project is expected to be a game-changer for local communities, creating new employment opportunities during construction and in the long term through improved infrastructure.
