Bihar has taken a significant leap towards a sustainable energy future with the signing of a pivotal agreement between NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL). This collaborative venture aims to dramatically accelerate the state’s transition to clean power, focusing on the development of battery energy storage systems and renewable energy projects. The partnership is a crucial step in Bihar’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and align with the national agenda for zero-net-carbon and eco-friendly urban and rural development.
The landmark agreement, formalised on July 26, 2025, saw the presence of key dignitaries, including Bihar’s Minister of Energy, Planning & Development, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, and Minister of Industries, Nitish Mishra. This high-level endorsement underscores the state government’s strategic commitment to modernising its energy infrastructure. BSPGCL, a government-owned entity responsible for electricity generation in Bihar, is actively exploring renewable options as part of its broader energy transition strategy, aiming to enhance capacity and ensure energy security for the state’s growing power demand.
NGEL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated power utility, is at the forefront of this green energy drive. Its mission is to spearhead the development and management of renewable energy projects, encompassing solar, wind, hydrogen, and emerging battery storage technologies. The collaboration with BSPGCL will leverage NGEL’s expertise to implement large-scale clean energy solutions in Bihar, directly contributing to the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels and promoting environmental stewardship through innovation.
