Patna Metro Rail Project has achieved a significant milestone with the dispatch of its first three coach trainset, propelling the ambitious urban transit system closer to operation. This development follows the Bihar Government’s approval to rent a single three car trainset from Pune Metro for a period of three years. The Bihar Cabinet sanctioned twenty one point one five crore rupees for this rental on July fifteen, two thousand twenty five, specifically to commence services on the priority corridor of the Patna Metro Rail Project.
The priority corridor is an elevated section of Corridor 2, spanning six point four nine kilometers, connecting Malahi Pakri and New ISBT. This stretch is crucial for easing traffic congestion in the state capital. The train coaches, manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited, were dispatched from Pune on July eleven and are expected to arrive in Patna within a couple of weeks. This move is a major step towards the operational launch of the ‘Blue Line’, scheduled for August fifteen. Officials report that about ninety five percent of the construction work on this priority corridor is complete.

The Patna Metro Project, an under construction Mass Rapid Transit System for Bihar’s capital, comprises two corridors and twenty four stations in its first phase, with an estimated cost of thirteen thousand three hundred sixty five point seven seven crore rupees. Corridor 1, the East West Corridor, runs for sixteen point eight six kilometers with fourteen stations. Corridor 2, the North South Corridor, stretches fourteen point zero five kilometers with twelve stations, connecting Patna Junction Railway Station to New ISBT. Construction activities are progressing rapidly, with recent breakthroughs, including Larsen & Toubro’s Tunnel Boring Machine achieving a breakthrough at PMCH Station of Line 2. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation DMRC will oversee the operation and maintenance of this priority corridor from August two thousand twenty five to March two thousand twenty eight.
This strategic decision to lease a trainset offers a cost effective solution, accelerating the launch of Patna’s long awaited metro service. It marks a transformative step towards modernizing public transportation, reducing vehicular emissions, and enhancing urban mobility in one of India’s rapidly growing cities. The metro is envisioned to lay the foundation for sustainable growth and improved quality of life for Patna’s citizens.
