Patna Launches Amrit Bharat Express To New Delhi With Eight Key Stops

Indian Railways is set to introduce a new Amrit Bharat Express train connecting Patna with New Delhi, a significant development aimed at enhancing inter-city connectivity for a broad spectrum of commuters. Commencing its journey from Rajendra Nagar Terminal, this service is specifically designed to cater to the low-income and middle-class segments, offering an affordable and comfortable long-distance travel option. The new express service underscores a commitment to accessible public transportation, fostering greater mobility and socio-economic integration across regions.

The new Amrit Bharat Express will traverse a substantial distance of 998 kilometres, completing its journey between Rajendra Nagar Terminal and New Delhi in approximately 16 hours and 20 minutes. Operating as train number 22361 for the Patna-New Delhi route and 22362 for the return journey, the service will include eight strategic stoppages. These intermediate stations—Patna, Danapur, Ara, Buxar, DDU, Subedarganj, Govindpuri, and Ghaziabad—are carefully selected to ensure broad regional access and seamless travel for passengers across key urban and semi-urban centres along the corridor.

This initiative aligns robustly with the vision of creating more eco-friendly and sustainable cities. Rail transport inherently boasts a lower carbon footprint per passenger compared to individual road travel or short-haul flights, contributing significantly to reduced greenhouse gas emissions. By providing an affordable and reliable mass transit option, the Amrit Bharat Express encourages a shift away from more carbon-intensive modes, thereby supporting the nation’s zero net carbon objectives. Furthermore, the train’s design, featuring Sleeper Class and General Class coaches, ensures gender-neutral and equitable access to long-distance travel, empowering diverse demographics with enhanced mobility for economic, educational, and social pursuits.

The Amrit Bharat Express is slated to operate daily, providing consistent and reliable connectivity between Bihar’s capital and the national capital. Designed to achieve a maximum speed of 130 kilometres per hour, the service promises efficient transit. The approximate ticket price for Sleeper Class travel between Patna and New Delhi is set around ₹720, making it an economically viable option for its target demographic. The train will depart from Rajendra Nagar Terminal at 19:45 hours, arriving in New Delhi at 13:10 hours the following day. For the return leg, it will depart New Delhi at 19:10 hours, reaching Patna at 10:50 hours. This new service is poised to significantly bolster regional connectivity, facilitating trade, tourism, and social exchange, thereby contributing to more integrated and prosperous urban landscapes.
