Panvel Civic Body Implements QR Code System for Ads

In a bid to streamline advertising practices and ensure better regulation, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has implemented a mandatory QR code system for all advertisements across its jurisdiction. The new rule, which comes as a directive from the Bombay High Court, aims to bring more transparency and control over the display of advertisements in the region.

Under this new framework, advertisements—including posters, banners, hoardings, and advertising boards—will be restricted to just 175 designated locations spread across the four wards of the municipal corporation. This move is part of a larger effort to combat illegal and unregulated advertisements that often clutter public spaces. To ensure compliance, the PMC has outlined a clear process for institutions, traders, social organisations, businesses, and advertisers wishing to display ads. These entities must first obtain approval from the PMC before putting up any advertisement. Once granted permission, a unique QR code will be generated for each advertisement. This QR code must then be prominently displayed on the ad, allowing authorities to verify its legitimacy. In an effort to streamline the approval process, the PMC has introduced an online portal where applicants can apply for permissions.

Through the website https://pmc.advertisepermission.in/, applicants can submit their requests and receive a QR code once the ad is approved. This system ensures that all advertisements are properly vetted before being displayed. The PMC has also issued a stern warning against non-compliance. Any advertisements that do not feature the mandatory QR code or lack proper approval will be considered illegal, with actions to be taken against violators. To assist in the enforcement of this new rule, the municipal corporation has set up various channels, including a toll-free number, WhatsApp, and SMS services, for citizens to report unauthorised advertisements. This initiative marks a significant step toward improving public space management and ensuring that advertising within Panvel follows legal and orderly practices, thereby aligning with the Bombay High Court’s directives and the Municipal Corporation Act.
