Panchkula is gearing up for a significant urban upgrade as the municipal corporation prepares to replace all 18,500 sodium streetlights across the city with modern LED lights.
In a proactive move towards enhancing energy efficiency and urban aesthetics, the civic body has already received 10,000 additional LED lights, complementing the earlier installation of 4,400 units. With just 4,000 replacements pending, the project is progressing swiftly under the leadership of Mayor . The initiative, aimed at transforming Panchkula’s urban landscape, is part of the city’s comprehensive plan to adopt smart technologies for sustainable development. Approved by the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (ULB), the project includes not only the replacement of traditional street lights but also the installation of Command, Control, and Monitoring System (CCMS) panels for a smart lighting system. A financial sanction of Rs 9.90 crore has been allocated for the technical setup and implementation of CCMS under the ‘Divya Nagar’ scheme. This initiative marks a significant investment by the ULB to modernize urban infrastructure and improve public amenities.
During the recent Finance and Contract Committee meeting, Mayor [Name] confirmed the approval of Rs 9.90 crore towards the LED streetlight replacement project, highlighting the city’s commitment to sustainable urban development. The ‘Divya Nagar’ scheme aims to enhance lighting efficiency and public safety by integrating advanced control panels that allow for automatic scheduling of streetlight operations based on predefined timings. The project includes provisions for manual operation, ensuring flexibility in managing lighting requirements during different seasons. As part of the initiative, tenders are also being finalized for cable laying, essential for the seamless integration of the new LED streetlights and CCMS panels across Panchkula. The introduction of smart LED streetlights not only promises better illumination but also contributes to reducing the city’s carbon footprint through enhanced energy efficiency. Panchkula residents can expect improved visibility and safety on ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ category roads as the project progresses towards completion, marking a significant milestone in the city’s urban evolution.
