T’gana Reviews Plan to Tackle Air Pollution in State

Telangana’s Special Chief Secretary of Environment, Science, and Technology, Rajat Kumar, conducted a comprehensive review of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board’s action plan to address air pollution, e-waste management and construction and demolition practices within the state. A study conducted in Hyderabad aimed to identify contributions of various sources to the concentration of particulate matter measuring less than 10 and 2.5 microns.

The study highlighted several significant sources of pollution, including road dust, vehicular emissions, open burning, secondary pollutants and industrial activities. Recognising the importance of tackling these sources, a major challenge lies in effectively collecting e-waste from domestic households and providing training to the informal sector to ensure proper and scientific processing of electronic waste.

The review focused on developing strategies to combat the identified sources of pollution and streamline efforts to improve air quality and environment sustainability in Telangana. The importance of raising awareness among the general public about the harmful effects of pollution and the significance of responsible waste management practices was highlighted.

As part of the action plan, the State Pollution Control Board will implement measures to reduce road dust, control vehicular emissions, discourage open burning and enforce strict emission norms for industries. Additionally, efforts will be directed towards enhancing the collection and recycling of e-waste, focusing on educating the informal sector on environment-friendly practices.
