The Odisha government has taken decisive action against illegal constructions in Bhubaneswar, with orders issued for the demolition of 191 unauthorised buildings. This development was disclosed by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra during an assembly session on Tuesday.
In response to a query from BJD legislator Ranendra Pratap Swain, Mohapatra outlined that a total of 491 cases have been filed against properties alleged to have been constructed in violation of regulations within the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) jurisdiction. Of these, demolition orders have been confirmed for 191 buildings. Additionally, 63 cases have been resolved, while 237 remain under legal scrutiny. In the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area, the situation is similarly serious. Here, 1,444 cases have been registered concerning illegal constructions. The authorities have addressed 451 of these cases, while the remaining 993 are still pending adjudication.
This enforcement action highlights the government’s stringent stance on unauthorised developments, aiming to curb the proliferation of illegal buildings and uphold urban planning regulations. The swift legal and administrative measures signal a robust effort to maintain compliance with zoning laws and construction norms, ensuring that future developments adhere to regulatory standards. The demolition orders mark a significant step in addressing the growing issue of illegal construction, which has been a persistent challenge in rapidly expanding urban areas. The resolution of these cases is expected to reinforce the rule of law in real estate development and serve as a deterrent against future violations.
