Odisha in a significant step toward modernizing railway infrastructure will see the construction of a fourth railway line between Ranital Link Cabin and Bhadrak station spanning 5.06 kilometers. This project estimated to cost ₹149.32 crore is set to play a crucial role in easing congestion and enhancing freight and passenger train operations along one of Indias busiest railway routes. The new line signifies a major boost for the vital Howrah Chennai High Density Network.
The Ranital Bhadrak stretch forms part of the Howrah Chennai High Density Network a critical corridor for both long distance passenger trains and heavy freight movement. The new line will effectively decongest this section by facilitating the separation of freight and coaching traffic. This is particularly important for goods trains heading toward Dhamra and Paradeep ports ensuring smoother and faster passage. Currently this heavily used segment frequently experiences bottlenecks that cause delays for passenger and Mail Express trains. The introduction of a fourth line is expected to significantly improve punctuality enable smoother movement of coaching trains between Kharagpur and Bhubaneswar and substantially enhance the overall operational efficiency of the entire corridor.

Officials from East Coast Railway noted that this infrastructure expansion is part of a broader initiative to upgrade Odishas railway network into a world class system. This modernization aims to meet the growing demand from both passengers and industries across the region. The project will also provide a critical boost to the freight handling capacity further strengthening Odishas role as a key logistics hub in eastern India. Once completed the section will be much better equipped to manage increasing traffic volumes paving the way for faster more reliable train services throughout the region ensuring seamless connectivity.
This strategic railway development underscores a commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and economic efficiency. By alleviating congestion and improving operational fluidity it promises substantial benefits for both passenger travel and industrial freight movement. The project is a vital step in modernizing railway infrastructure to support future growth and development in Odisha.
