Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has announced the winners of its 2,000 MW wind-solar hybrid power project auction (Tranche VII).
The auction, aimed at expanding the country’s clean energy capacity, attracted bids from several prominent developers, with NTPC Renewable Energy, Juniper Green Energy, and Green Infra Wind Energy (Sembcorp) emerging victorious.
NTPC Renewable Energy secured 300 MW by quoting the lowest tariff of ₹3.15 kWh. Notably, the total allotted capacity was 900 MW, significantly lower than the initial 2,000 MW tendered, reflecting a competitive bidding process and stringent project requirements. The projects are mandated to be operational within 24 months from the date of the power purchase agreement (PPA). Developers are required to maintain an annual capacity utilization factor (CUF) between 90% and 120% of the declared value throughout the 25-year PPA duration.
Additionally, the rated installed capacity of either the solar or wind component must constitute at least 33% of the contracted capacity, ensuring a balanced energy generation mix.The SECI auction underscores India’s commitment to achieving its renewable energy targets and transitioning towards a sustainable energy future. By fostering competition and setting clear operational standards, SECI is paving the way for a robust and resilient renewable energy infrastructure. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing energy security. As the country continues to invest in renewable energy projects, the success of this auction serves as a model for future endeavors in the clean energy sector.
