NSE To Develop Rs 380 Crore 60 Bed Bone Marrow Transplant Hospital In Kharghar

Navi Mumbai is set to become home to the country’s largest bone marrow transplant (BMT) facility, with a new 60-bed specialised hospital block being established at the Tata Memorial Centre’s Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Kharghar. The project, valued at ₹380 crore, is being fully supported through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding by the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

The 11-storey medical block, to be constructed by a leading infrastructure company, will be called the NSE Multispecialty Hospital Block & Bone Marrow Transplant Cancer Hospital. Once complete, the state-of-the-art unit will be handed over to ACTREC and is expected to begin operations by July 2027. At present, ACTREC operates only a five-bed BMT unit. With the upcoming facility, the centre will expand its capacity to perform nearly 600 transplants annually, a six-fold increase. Additionally, the hospital is projected to manage 1.3 lakh outpatient consultations each year, positioning it as one of the country’s most significant hubs for advanced cancer care.

The existing facility already witnesses over 300 patients daily and performs more than 100 transplants every year. ACTREC has also pioneered indigenous CAR-T cell therapy for blood cancer patients in India since 2021, underscoring its reputation as a leader in cutting-edge medical research and treatment. Experts at ACTREC stressed that the new unit will not only enhance medical capacity but also ensure affordability. Bone marrow transplants in private hospitals often cost upwards of ₹40 lakh, while even public hospitals charge more than ₹10 lakh. The upcoming Navi Mumbai facility aims to provide these life-saving treatments at the most affordable rates in the country, thanks to subsidies and fundraising support from the Tata Memorial Centre.

Officials from the NSE highlighted that the initiative reflects a commitment to bridging the healthcare gap in India, particularly in cancer treatment, where affordability remains a major challenge for thousands of families. They noted that the project exemplifies the role of corporate participation in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and widening access to advanced therapies. Healthcare experts also pointed out that such large-scale investments align with the growing need for sustainable and equitable healthcare in India’s expanding urban regions. With Navi Mumbai emerging as a medical hub, the facility is expected to reduce the burden on existing cancer centres across the country while also contributing to a more inclusive model of treatment access.

The initiative further reflects the intersection of healthcare development with the broader vision of building resilient, equitable, and sustainable cities. By supporting a facility that combines advanced medical technology with affordability, the project marks a step forward in reshaping healthcare delivery for urban India, particularly in life-threatening conditions like cancer. When complete, the NSE-backed multispecialty hospital will not only represent the largest BMT facility in the country but also stand as a symbol of collaboration between corporate funding and public health institutions. For families battling cancer, it could become a beacon of both hope and accessibility.
