Noida may soon see the development of a new elevated corridor along the Yamuna embankment as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) considers a strategic proposal to ease the region’s growing traffic burden. The planned stretch, connecting Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj to Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, is expected to decongest the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and provide direct connectivity to the Noida International Airport.
The proposal, raised by Gautam Buddh Nagar Member of Parliament Dr Mahesh Sharma, was acknowledged by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during a public event near the upcoming airport. Gadkari confirmed that the Centre is open to evaluating the plan and stated that funding would not be a constraint. He highlighted that projects worth ₹1.2 lakh crore are already underway in Delhi-NCR, with over ₹60,000 crore of work completed to date.
With nearly five lakh vehicles using the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway every day — two lakh of which enter through DND, Chilla Border, Kalindi Kunj, and several key Noida sectors — the existing infrastructure is under immense pressure. The proposed corridor is expected to offer a critical bypass, improving travel efficiency and reducing vehicular emissions in the process.
The Noida Authority had given its in-principle approval for the road project earlier in March. The Authority’s CEO Lokesh M reiterated the urgency for an alternative route, citing rapid urban development, real estate expansion, and the airport’s anticipated operational launch later this year. Officials believe that the corridor, aligned with India’s net-zero goals, will play a vital role in shaping a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable urban framework for the region.
If approved and executed, the embankment road will serve as a model for eco-conscious infrastructure that supports both mobility and environmental priorities. The project reflects Noida’s growing emphasis on building resilient transport systems that meet future demands without compromising on climate commitments.
