The Noida Authority has announced the construction of a 400-metre-long circular skywalk at the bustling Sector 62-63 roundabout along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
With an estimated cost of ₹40 crore, this project aims to serve over 50,000 pedestrians daily, providing a safer and more efficient means of crossing one of Noida’s busiest intersections. The proposed skywalk will be elevated above the ground, mirroring the roundabout’s circular layout. It will feature an iron canopy to protect users from adverse weather conditions, ensuring comfort during both rain and heat. To accommodate all commuters, the skywalk will be equipped with escalators and elevators, making it accessible for senior citizens, women, and differently-abled individuals. Additionally, the structure will be integrated with the existing foot overbridge on the highway, facilitating smoother transitions for pedestrians coming from Ghaziabad.
A recent study highlighted that over 50,000 pedestrians cross the Sector 62-63 roundabout daily, primarily comprising bus passengers from Delhi, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Noida. The existing foot overbridge was found to be ineffective due to heavy pedestrian use in the area. The new skywalk is expected to alleviate chaotic traffic at this key intersection, providing a dedicated path for pedestrians and reducing the risk of accidents. This initiative is part of the Noida Authority’s comprehensive urban mobility plan, which includes the development of a 3.5 km model road from Sector 62 to Mamura. The plan encompasses road widening, footpath construction, and area redesign to reduce peak-hour congestion around office zones, residences, and metro stations. The goal is to make Noida smarter, safer, and more pedestrian-friendly, promoting smoother vehicular flow and enhancing the overall commuting experience.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the skywalk has been prepared and is set to be examined by IIT experts to ensure structural integrity and design efficiency. Upon receiving approval, the construction work is expected to commence promptly, with the aim of completing the project within the stipulated timeline. The proposed 400-metre circular skywalk at the Sector 62-63 roundabout represents a significant step towards improving pedestrian infrastructure and traffic management in Noida. By prioritising pedestrian safety and integrating modern design elements, the Noida Authority is working towards creating a more sustainable and equitable urban environment for its residents and commuters.
