The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a crucial step in enhancing urban connectivity with the approval of the ₹2,991.60-crore extension of Noida Metro’s Aqua Line. The modified Detailed Project Report (DPR), recently approved by the state cabinet, has been submitted to the Central government for final approval, according to Lokesh M, Managing Director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC).
Describing the project as a transformative milestone, Lokesh M emphasised its potential to significantly improve public transportation and ease congestion in the Noida-Greater Noida region. “This extension will connect key areas of Noida and Greater Noida, providing much-needed relief to commuters by reducing road traffic along Vikas Marg and the Noida-Greater Noida Link Road,” he noted.
Spanning 17.435 km, the proposed extension will add 11 new stations, strategically located to serve residential, commercial, and industrial areas. The new stations include Sector 61, which will act as an interchange with Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, as well as key hubs such as Sector 70, Greater Noida Sector 4, Eco Tech-12, and Knowledge Park-V. The project also aims to improve access to both the Aqua Line and Delhi Metro services, enhancing convenience for daily commuters. With a focus on sustainability and efficiency, the extension is expected to streamline the region’s public transportation network, providing a reliable alternative to road-based travel. The expanded connectivity is anticipated to ease the burden on major thoroughfares, reducing traffic congestion and contributing to a more environmentally friendly urban environment.
The Aqua Line extension is part of a broader vision to strengthen the region’s public transport infrastructure and accommodate the growing population of Noida and Greater Noida. Officials estimate that the new stations will significantly boost ridership, encouraging more people to opt for public transit over private vehicles. The submission of the modified DPR marks a critical step toward the project’s implementation. Once approved by the Centre, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation is expected to begin construction, bringing the region closer to a more connected and sustainable future. For the people of Noida and Greater Noida, the Aqua Line extension promises not only improved mobility but also a step forward in the area’s urban development and liveability.
