No Entry Near Thane Railway Station Platform 1 for Autos, Taxis, and Bikes

In a recent update to commuters, Central Railway has posted a notice outside Platform No. 1 at Thane Railway Station, alerting passengers to temporary road restrictions due to ongoing construction work. As part of the infrastructure upgrade, micro-tunneling and pipe-pushing operations are being carried out on the route leading to Platform 1.

Consequently, all auto rickshaws, taxis, and motorcycles have been prohibited from entering the area. Although the banner indicates the nature of the work, it does not provide a clear timeline for the completion of the construction activities. The route affected by these changes is vital, particularly for passengers departing from Thane station, as it serves as a crucial exit point from Platform No. 1, which is the departure platform for trains bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST). This platform is one of the busiest at Thane station, especially during peak hours, making the restriction particularly impactful for daily commuters. Thane Railway Station, a key transit hub on the Central Line, witnesses significant foot traffic. Central Railway frequently undertakes various development projects to accommodate the growing number of commuters, and this micro-tunneling project is part of such efforts.

The construction activity is visible on-site, with JCB machines and other heavy equipment operating in the area, making the road access blocked for the time being. In addition to the construction work, the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) recently issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for leasing vertical airspace at the station. The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), aims to develop a Multi-Modal Transit Hub. As part of this scheme, an 11-storey commercial building, located near Platform 10A, will be constructed. This project will include parking facilities, railway-related services, a concourse for bus operations, and office spaces across eight upper floors. The ongoing development at Thane station represents a significant step towards modernising the city’s transport infrastructure, though the temporary road restrictions may cause inconvenience for commuters in the short term.
