NMMC Cleans Up 82.15 Tons of Garbage Post Coldplay Concert
The Coldplay concert held at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai not only attracted thousands of music lovers but also generated a massive volume of waste, which was swiftly managed by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). Over the three-day event, the NMMC collected a total of 82.15 tons of garbage, ensuring that the area remained clean despite the large crowds.
The waste management process began on 18th January 2025, the day before the concert, when 16.2 tons of garbage were collected. This included 11.925 tons of wet waste, collected over three trips, and 4.275 tons of dry waste collected in a single truck. This initial collection accounted for the preparatory activities before the concert itself began. The next day, January 19, saw an additional 12.85 tons of waste collected, including 3.15 tons of wet waste and 9.7 tons of dry waste. The NMMC’s teams worked tirelessly to gather and segregate the waste generated during the concert, which lasted until the early hours of 20th January. The highest collection was recorded on January 20, following the second day of the concert, when the NMMC gathered an impressive 35.28 tons of garbage. This included 8.93 tons of wet waste from two trips and 26.35 tons of dry waste from seven trips.
On the final day of the concert, January 21, waste management teams collected 17.82 tons of garbage, consisting of 9.67 tons of wet waste and 8.15 tons of dry waste. In total, NMMC collected 33.675 tons of wet waste and 48.475 tons of dry waste over the course of the event. The NMMC’s cleaning operation began immediately after the concert concluded at 10 PM, led by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Dr. Ajay Gadde. Over 100 sanitation workers worked through the night, ensuring that the area was completely cleaned by 3 AM. Dr. Ajay Gadde highlighted that the wet waste, primarily consisting of leftover food, was taken to the dumping yard, while the dry waste, mainly plastic bottles and wrappers, was sent for recycling. The NMMC’s efficient waste management efforts have garnered praise, showcasing the corporation’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and sustainability even during large-scale events.
