NHAI to Open Bhankrota Flyover by March End

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to open the six-lane Bhankrota flyover by the end of March, providing much-needed relief to thousands of commuters on the busy Ajmer Road. The flyover, which is nearing completion, has been a long-awaited infrastructure development aimed at resolving the severe traffic congestion that has plagued the area, particularly during peak hours.

Located along the 90-km Jaipur-Kishangarh highway, which sees about 1 lakh passenger car units daily, the Bhankrota flyover is a critical addition to the highway network. It will join the nine other flyovers constructed in the past four years at key intersections, including Heerapura, Narsinghpura, and Dahmikalan. These developments have been part of a larger effort to improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks along one of India’s busiest routes. The new flyover, which spans over 1,600 metres, will run parallel to the existing 200-foot culvert. It will ease the movement of vehicles traveling from Ajmer, Bagru, and Bhankrota towards Delhi and Sikar.

This project is expected to greatly benefit the daily commuters who often face significant delays, with wait times extending up to 198 minutes during peak hours.
According to NHAI officials, the construction of the flyover gained urgency following a tragic incident in December, when an LPG tanker explosion at a U-turn on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway claimed 20 lives. This tragedy highlighted the need for improved road infrastructure in the area. To expedite the project, traffic diversions were implemented, directing vehicles to service lanes on Ajmer Road.
The flyover’s completion also comes in the wake of a Rajasthan High Court order, which instructed NHAI to complete the Bhankrota flyover project by April 1, 2025, with no further delays. The timely opening of the flyover is expected to significantly improve safety, reduce travel times, and boost the overall efficiency of the highway.
