NHAI Prepares Plans for 3 New Link Roads
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) for three new link roads aimed at improving connectivity and easing congestion in and around Delhi. These roads will serve as crucial links between major expressways, ensuring smoother travel for commuters and reducing traffic on existing arterial roads.
The estimated cost for the three projects was initially pegged at ₹9,100 crore, but the final figures will be determined once the DPRs are completed. NHAI officials expect to finalise the reports within six to seven months, after which work can commence.
One of the proposed link roads, approximately 20 km long, will connect the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and the Delhi-Katra Expressway.
This corridor will enable seamless travel from Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Indira Gandhi International Airport, significantly cutting travel time for long-distance commuters. The second link road, spanning 17 km, will provide a direct route between UER-II and Tronica City, passing through the under-construction Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
This road will reduce congestion on the Ring Road and improve connectivity for vehicles traveling from Rajasthan and Haryana to Dehradun and beyond. The third major project is a 35-km-long corridor connecting the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway with Noida. This road will act as an east Delhi bypass, allowing smooth and uninterrupted travel from north, northwest, and southwest Delhi to Noida, easing pressure on existing roads.
These new link roads are part of a larger infrastructure push to modernise urban travel and decongest key routes. Once completed, they are expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve traffic flow, and support economic growth by reducing travel time and fuel consumption.
