The Indian Railways is all set to launch a new Vande Bharat Express train that will connect Odisha’s Puri with Tatanagar in Jharkhand.
This semi-high-speed train promises to reduce travel time, offer enhanced passenger amenities, and stimulate tourism in both regions. The launch of the Puri-Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express is expected to be a game-changer for both the state of Odisha and Jharkhand. This new train service will cover the 514-kilometre distance in under eight hours, offering a faster and more comfortable alternative to the current train options. With a focus on passenger convenience, the train will feature modern amenities like improved air conditioning, infotainment systems, bio-vacuum toilets, and automatic doors, ensuring a seamless and pleasant journey for all passengers.
The train is scheduled to operate six days a week, with an off day on Thursdays. According to the preliminary timetable, the train will depart from Tatanagar at 6:10 am and reach Puri by 2:10 pm, with the return service departing Puri at 2:40 pm and arriving in Tatanagar at 10:40 pm. This improved connectivity will make it more convenient for people traveling between the two cities, especially those who wish to visit Puri, a major pilgrimage and tourist destination. Along the route, several important stops will ensure that smaller towns and cities also benefit from the new service. Some of the key stations include Jhargram, Ghatsila, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Khurda Road. These stops will not only provide accessibility for commuters but will also help boost local economies by promoting tourism and enhancing business opportunities in these areas.
The Vande Bharat Express will consist of eight coaches, offering two classes of seating: the AC Chair Car and the Executive Chair Car. The AC Chair Car is expected to cost around Rs 1,500, while the Executive Chair Car will have a fare of approximately Rs 2,400. This pricing strategy offers options for a wide range of travelers, making the service accessible to both budget-conscious passengers and those seeking a more luxurious experience. Designed to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, the Vande Bharat Express will drastically reduce travel time, which is expected to encourage more people to opt for this modern, efficient mode of transport. The train is expected to serve as a significant boost to both local tourism and the regional economy. Tourists travelling from Tatanagar and other nearby towns will now find it easier and faster to visit Puri, which is home to several important cultural and religious sites, including the famous Jagannath Temple.
In addition to the tourism benefits, the Vande Bharat Express will provide a more eco-friendly mode of transport compared to private vehicles and older trains. With a focus on sustainability, the Vande Bharat Express aligns with the country’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and promoting greener transportation options. This introduction of the Vande Bharat Express between Puri and Tatanagar marks a significant milestone in the Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernise and enhance its services, ensuring a more efficient, comfortable, and environmentally conscious travel experience for passengers.
