New Terminal to House Feeder Bus Parking

Pune’s connectivity between the airport and the Ramwadi Metro station is set to improve significantly with the establishment of permanent parking for feeder buses near the exit gate of the new terminal building. This strategic move aims to address visibility issues that have hampered the service since its inception in March.

Maha Metro officials are also negotiating with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) to introduce an additional bus to the feeder service. This decision follows the inauguration of the new terminal, which is expected to increase passenger traffic. Murlidhar Mohal, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP, recently visited the Maha Metro office, where he was briefed on the challenges facing the feeder service. Officials highlighted the absence of designated parking for the airport service buses, leading to low visibility and, consequently, limited utilisation by commuters. Mohal assured that once the new terminal building becomes operational, dedicated space within the premises would be allocated for these buses. A meeting with airport authorities is anticipated soon to finalise the parking arrangements.

The feeder service, which operates 10 trips daily between Pune airport and Ramwadi Metro station, was launched to facilitate seamless travel for flyers. However, it has struggled to gain traction among commuters. A frequent traveller expressed frustration, stating, “How will it garner interest when most of the time we cannot even spot the bus? I have travelled from the airport to Hinjewadi four times since March but never have I seen any PMPML bus at the airport.” Airport authorities are working towards resolving these issues without disrupting the flow of private vehicles and cabs. An official confirmed that a conclusive meeting is expected this week to iron out the details and ensure that the feeder service becomes a reliable and visible option for travellers.

The introduction of a visible parking spot is anticipated to significantly boost the utility of the feeder service, making it easier for commuters to identify and access the buses. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance the efficiency and convenience of public transport in Pune, aligning with the city’s expanding metro network and growing passenger demands.
