New Police HQ Construction to Start in Dalibagh
The New Police Commissionerate Headquarters in Lucknow is set to move forward after renewed efforts to expedite the project. The headquarters will be located near the UP DGP office in Dalibagh, just opposite the back gate of the Lucknow Zoo. The latest development comes after a site inspection by senior police officials, marking a significant step in the project’s progress.
The concept of the Commissionerate system was introduced in Lucknow and Noida in January 2020 to streamline law enforcement in the city. However, one key challenge that remained was the search for an appropriate site to house the headquarters. The Dalibagh location was initially proposed during the tenure of the former Police Commissioner, with the foundation stone laid in early 2022. Despite these initial efforts, the project had faced delays, largely due to changes in the design and an increase in the number of proposed facilities, which is expected to raise the overall cost of the project.
The new headquarters will be an eight-story structure, designed to accommodate several important law enforcement offices, including those of the Additional Director General of Zone and the Inspector General of Range. With the foundation already laid, the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has been tasked with preparing a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) to reflect the updated requirements for the building.
Officials have assured the public that construction will begin soon, with the project promising to strengthen police operations and improve administrative efficiency in the city. Once complete, the new headquarters is expected to enhance the city’s law enforcement capabilities, providing a modern, centralised hub for police services in Lucknow.
