New PJR Flyover Eases Gachibowli Traffic, Boosts Hyderabad Connectivity
Hyderabad’s urban transformation gained momentum with the inauguration of the PJR Flyover at Shilpa Layout Phase-2. Aimed at decongesting Gachibowli Junction, the six-lane flyover enhances road access to Kondapur, Hi-Tech City, and the Financial District. This milestone forms part of a wider ₹10,000 crore urban overhaul, reinforcing the city’s ambition to become a global, climate-resilient, and innovation-driven metropolis.
The newly launched PJR Flyover, spanning 1.2 kilometres, addresses one of Hyderabad’s major mobility challenges—traffic bottlenecks at the Gachibowli Junction. With the corridor being a vital route for tech professionals and commuters heading to Hi-Tech City and the Financial District, the flyover is expected to streamline vehicular flow and reduce commute time. Authorities highlighted this as part of a strategy to ease pressure on major intersections and encourage sustainable transportation infrastructure.
The project falls under the larger H-CITI initiative—a ₹7,032 crore programme aimed at reshaping Hyderabad’s urban landscape. Backed by ₹10,000 crore in this fiscal’s urban development budget, H-CITI includes the construction of 28 flyovers and AI-powered smart traffic systems. Experts believe this integrated approach can significantly improve urban liveability, reduce air pollution caused by idling vehicles, and lay the groundwork for more walkable, efficient, and low-carbon city spaces.
Urban planners have described Hyderabad’s infrastructure push as one of the most ambitious in the country. Alongside physical upgrades, the administration has announced a futuristic “Future City” project, covering 30,000 acres, with net-zero targets and global-standard planning frameworks. This model city is envisioned to serve as a hub for smart energy, green mobility, and innovation-led industries—setting Hyderabad apart as a forward-looking city ready for the challenges of rapid urbanisation.
Residents and civic experts have welcomed the new flyover but also cautioned about the need for consistent maintenance, proper traffic education, and inclusive planning to avoid infrastructure gaps. With increased traffic volumes expected on the corridor, complementary measures such as last-mile connectivity, improved pedestrian access, and integrated transport systems will be key to ensuring the infrastructure investment truly benefits all segments of the population and does not worsen existing traffic elsewhere.
The inauguration of the PJR Flyover signals a turning point in Hyderabad’s journey towards becoming a smarter, cleaner, and more connected urban space. As part of a larger vision powered by tech-driven mobility and sustainable urban planning, this infrastructure milestone strengthens not only traffic efficiency but also the city’s global aspirations. Continued focus on equity and resilience will be vital as this vision progresses.
